PalmettoPride, South Carolina’s anti-litter organization, has created a new leadership program for South Carolina teens with its Youth Ambassadors. This new initiative seeks applications from South Carolina students ages 14–18 who are active in litter prevention in their communities. The benefits of being a PalmettoPride Youth Ambassador will include statewide recognition, college application and resume building, community service hours, and a $1,000 scholarship. The Lourie Center is offering a summer water fitness program for adults, in cooperation with City of Columbia Parks and Recreation, at Maxcy Gregg Pool. Classes begin Tuesday May 31 and will continue all summer through Saturday September 3—9 a.m. classes include either Shallow Water Fitness, a low-impact cardio class using resistance based-strength training, or Aqua Zumba, an invigorating low-impact program that blends cardio and toning to upbeat music. Aqua shoes are recommended. Classes meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. 10 a.m. Deep Water Fitness classes provide a more intensive workout in the deep end of the pool.
