Aurora student participates in symposium for scholarship and creativity
Olunife Akinmolayan, of Aurora, 60504, recently participated in the University of Findlay's 2022 Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity.
Akinmolayan received the College of Pharmacy Travel Award and the Good Advocacy Award. Also, Akinmolayan presented "Equipping Pharmacists and Student Pharmacists with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Tools."
Undergraduate and graduate students were given the opportunity to share their research, creativity, and professional learning experiences with the University and community, with many students receiving honors at the same time. Aurora students inducted into Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
They are among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Aurora student earns scholarship at Central College
Logan Mont of Aurora received the Journey Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year from Central College for a high commitment to academic achievement. Mont is a member of the class of 2024 at Central in Pella, Iowa.
The Scholarship Celebration also recognized the generous alumni, parents, friends faculty and staff who support scholarships for Central students. A video was shown during the dinner highlighting Central's newest endowed scholarship. It may be accessed at central.edu/perkins-scholarship.
Aurora student helps stage co-production of 'Lizzie: The Musical'
Audrey Hare of Aurora (60503) was part of the talented cast and crew in the Baldwin Wallace University and Beck Center for the Arts collaborative production of "Lizzie: The Musical" during the spring 2022 semester. Hare, a graduate of Benet Academy majoring in music theatre, played the part of Alice in the production.
"Lizzie: The Musical" was directed by Victoria Bussert with choreography by Greg Daniels and music direction by Matthew Webb. The international sensation took the world by storm in over 60 cities in six countries in five languages across four continents before the pandemic took its 40 whacks. A sexy, bloody American mythology, "Lizzie" is set to a blistering score of hard rock as it explores the mind of the infamous Lizzie Borden, who was accused and eventually acquitted of murdering her father and stepmother with an ax in 1892.
Aurora student finishes college at Utah State University
Sara Goeking (from 60506) is a candidate to graduate from Utah State University with a(n) Doctor of Philosophy in Watershed Science. Goeking is eligible to earn a degree from Utah State University and is among the 6,588 students eligible to receive degrees and certificates from USU's statewide campuses or USU Online. The 2022 graduating class includes graduates from summer and fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters.
Student from Aurora named UW-Whitewater Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete
Emma Aske, a native of Aurora, IL, and graduate of Metea Valley High School, is one of 59 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student-athletes recognized by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Interim Chancellor John Chenoweth as 2021-22 Chancellor's Scholar-Athletes Presented by Northwestern Mutual.
Aske, a member of the volleyball team at UW-Whitewater, is majoring in physical education.
Each Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete was recognized in a ceremony at the James R. Connor University Center by Director of Athletics Ryan Callahan and Chancellor Chenoweth.
To be recognized as Scholar-Athletes, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.25 cumulative grade point average or above through the end of the 2021 fall semester. Honorees must have participated in a varsity sport for two years, must be of senior academic status and must have accumulated at least 90 degree credits.
Zachary Weiss named to president's list at Bob Jones University
Zachary Weiss, a sophomore engineering major from Aurora, was among over 620 Bob Jones University students named to the Spring 2022 President's List.
The President's List recognizes students who earn a 3.75 or higher grade point average for the semester.
Student presents research at Carthage College scholarship event
Carthage College held its annual Celebration of Scholars event on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8. Celebration of Scholars is a poster exhibition that features original research, scholarship, and creative work completed by Carthage students.
Delanie Menconi of Aurora presented "Does the Use of Semi-Rigid Ankle Braces Rather Than Ankle Taping Increase Patient Satisfaction After Return to Play from an Ankle Sprain in Collegiate Athletes?" at the event.
