Rangers talent Alex Lowry has taken to Instagram to provide an injury update after being stretchered off against Dumbarton in the Challenge Cup – and it is good news for the Ibrox teen, as he confirms he is back in Rangers training.

Lowry, 19, was given a chance towards the end of last season and grabbed it with both hands. He had a hand in four goals in seven senior appearances – scoring two and creating two. He was expected to kick on this season for Rangers.

But having already netted a hat-trick in a Challenge Cup game for the B-team, he was stretchered off. The youngster left the match – Rangers won 7-0 – in a knee brace after what has been described as a “horror” tackle from Ally Love.

The Record reported at the time that he could be out for anything between 4-6 weeks. Four weeks later, Lowry took to Instagram to tell fans he is back in training. A big boost for Rangers, who need a bit of inspiration from somewhere.

It is a massive boost for the Gers. On Saturday, van Bronckhorst fielded a side that included youngsters Charlie McCann and Leon King. Adding Lowry in the mix will give the Gers a bit of freshness; a new signing. He is easily good enough.

He has already shown in the Premiership that he can score and create goals. The Gers have been stuttering so far, picking up wins in the league but far from their best – and being found out in Europe against Napoli and Ajax.

Rangers fans need a new source of belief, a bit of excitement from their side. Having a player like Lowry in the team, someone they can identify with, will certainly give them that. It is the ideal time for Lowry to return from injury.
