WORCESTER -- Triston Casas missed his third straight game after he was removed in the seventh inning of Tuesday’s game.

Casas injured his ankle after scooting back to third base on a baserunning play on Tuesday night and may have aggravated it on a play in the field the next half inning. He stayed in the game for another inning but was removed before he came up to bat again.

“The way he feels is different than how it looks. He’s still got some swelling. He’s keeping it moving,” said manager Chad Tracy. “You see him walking out there but he said he actually doesn’t feel as much pain anymore. He’s not having a ton of discomfort. So now it’s more about swelling management and getting some of that flushed out of there. Still just day to day at this point until we get into a more manageable place where you can start doing some activity, once we feel like we’ve got him to that point, we’ll have to get him out there and let him run the bases a little bit and do some activity and make sure he responds well.”

Roberto Ramos has done a nice job filling in for Casas in the mean time, hitting a walk-off home run on Thursday night and drawing a pair of walks on Friday. But Ryan Fitzgerald, who has played every position this season except pitcher, catcher, and first base, will likely check one of those off this weekend.

“You’ll see that here fairly soon,” Tracy said of Fitzgerald playing first base. “We probably won’t run [Ramos] out there every single day. There’s maybe logical spots to sit him down and let Fitzy have a go at it. So maybe this weekend...we’ll see him over there.”

Rob Refsnyder leaves game in eighth

Rob Refsnyder was taken out of Friday night’s game with hamstring tightness. He left in the eighth inning.

“He said he could probably keep going, but there’s no need,” Tracy said. “We need to keep him healthy for the long run. So just precautionary for now. We’ll see where he’s at.”

Fitzgerald slid over to right field for Refsnyder in the eighth and made a nice running catch.

“What puts it in perspective is when something happens, like it did tonight with Ref, we can do whatever we want. We had multiple options off the bench,” Tracy said. “That’s what makes that guy so valuable. As long as he’s on the field, we have options.”

WooSox starter Connor Seabold was scratched from Friday’s start and has been temporarily shut down with a strained pectoral muscle.

“It’s kind of like what happened with Whit (Garrett Whitlock) last year,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “So we shut him down. We’ll see how it progresses in the upcoming days and we’ll go from there.”

Ryan Brasier joins WooSox bullpen

The Red Sox optioned reliever Ryan Brasier to Triple-A Worcester to make room on the active roster for Michael Wacha on Friday, and manager Alex Cora touched on some of the things they want Brasier to work on in Triple-A.

“Mix up his pitches, get the fastball up in the zone, keep working on his slider,” manager Alex Cora said. “It’s one of those, it’s not an easy decision with what he means to us. But in the end, he knows he has to get better and he will.”

Brasier has allowed five home runs in 14 ⅓ innings this season and owns a 6.28 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and .316 batting average against in 18 outings for Boston this season.

Darwinzon Hernandez undergoes meniscus surgery

Darwinzon Hernandez was back in the clubhouse and walking around with a brace after having surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee this week.

“I have no idea what the timetable will be. His body will tell us that,” Tracy said. “He’ll slowly start to build it back up until they feel like, okay, now we’re at a point where he can start to go outside and put some pressure on it and throw and things like that. It’s fairly encouraging to see a guy go through procedure and then walk in here. With those types of procedures, they want you to get moving pretty quick. As he gets stronger we’ll have a better idea of a timetable.”
